the last concert of the king: Michael Jackson

At a press conference in England Thursday, Michael Jackson announced plans for a run of concerts at London's 02 Arena (site of Led Zeppelin's one-show return) beginning on July 9. It is unclear just how many shows Jackson will perform at the venue, but concert posters list 10 and sources say it could be more than double that, depending on demand. Entitled 'This Is It!,' this stretch looks to be Jackson's last.

"I'll be performing songs my fans want to hear," Jackson said at the press conference. "This is the final curtain call."

Given persistent reports in the last eight years that the 50-year-old superstar is allegedly buried in massive amounts of debt, not to mention legal battles and rumors of poor health, it's not surprising that Jackson would return to the stage. VIP tickets are rumored to run around a grand.

Jackson hasn't performed public concerts in more than a decade, and if HIStory teaches us anything, it's "Don't call it a comeback." But it's not supposed to be: From the sound of it, the King of Pop is bidding farewell.
